biography

David E. Fox received both his B.A in Piano performance and his M.A. in Piano Performance from UNC-G. He is currently completing his doctoral studies at Teachers College, Columbia University in Music Education. His Dissertation is entitled “Alternative Strategies for Teaching Music Appreciation” where he is exploring the application of active music-making philosophies in the general music classroom. In addition to Music Appreciation, Mr. Fox teaches piano, jazz piano, piano proficiency, Music Fundamentals, and Music Theory. He has been a full-time faculty member at Greensboro College since 1996. He is currently Co-ordinator of the Fine Arts Division, and also chair of the Academic Honor Council.

Mr. Fox performs throughout the Southeast as a classical and jazz pianist. Most recently, he has been active as a composer. On a recent faculty recital Fox presented the world premiere or “How the River Took Daughtry McLamb”, a song cycle for soprano, cello and piano, as well as several of his piano preludes.

Mr. Fox is the pianist in the Greg Hyslop Trio, the Atlantic Jazz Orchestra (formerly the US Airways Jazz Orchestra), the All-Stars, and the faculty jazz group Seven Steps, which he co-founded with Neill Clegg. In addition, his own group, The Dave Fox Group, will be releasing their new CD in the Fall of 2003. This group performs structured improvisation and is one of the most unique ensembles performing original music in the North Carolina area.
