The Contemporary Improvisation concentration at Greensboro College prepares musicians to enter the commercial and creative music arena as performers and composers. Entering students will possess performing skills beyond those of the general music major. In addition, while all CI students will study the piano, students in CI study both their principal instrument and at least one rhythm section instrument. If you’re a saxophonist, you’ll study the bass, or the guitar – – an instrument that moves you into an additional musical genre. The point is to expand your value in the marketplace. CI students also expand their songwriting skills with courses in literature and world culture. CI offers the ambitious, performance-career minded music student the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience that prepares them for the music marketplace of the 21st century.
